“Little is known about Balochi Literature prior to the middle of the 12th Century. The forced migrations and their struggles for survival, aggravated by the oppression by their enemies, deprived the Balochi of their oral tradition in their Caspian Kirman – Seistan areas. The first poem which we know of was composed in the late 12 century at the time when the Baloch migrated from Seistan Kirman to Makran and founded their first confederacy under Mir Jalalan.

In the 15 Century the Baloch were spread throughout what is know today as Eastern Balochistan. The formation of the confederacy provided a chance for poets to compose love songs, record their traditional history and their relations with their neighbours, their inter tribal feuds and their conquest drives into the Indian Sub-Continent.”
