Q.No.1 Discuss the development of quantum theory and its application to atomic structure. Derive and explain the Schrodinger wave equation for a particle confined in a one-dimensional box. Explain the quantum mechanical treatment of the hydrogen atom. (20)

Q.No.2 Discuss the theory of strong electrolytes and derive the Debye-Huckel equation for activity coefficients. Explain how this theory helps in understanding ionic equilibria in dilute solutions. (20)

Q.No.3 State and explain the First Law of Thermodynamics. Derive the relationship between internal energy, enthalpy, and work done during constant pressure and constant volume processes. Derive the expression for Gibbs free energy (ΔG) and show its significance in predicting spontaneity and chemical equilibrium. (20)

Q.No.4 Write a comparative account of the oxides of carbon (CO and CO2) with respect to preparation, properties, and toxicity. Discuss the chemistry of nitrides and oxides of nitrogen, giving structures, oxidation states, and environmental implications. (20)

Q.No.5 Describe the metallurgical processes involved in the extraction of copper and aluminum from their ores. Discuss the principles, major steps (concentration, roasting / calcination, smelting, electrolysis), and important reactions involved in each process. (20)

Q.No.7 Describe the nature of coordinate bond and the historical development of coordination chemistry. Apply Crystal Field Theory (CFT) to explain the structure, bonding, and properties of tetrahedral and octahedral complexes. (20)

Q.No.8 Discuss the sources, types and control methods of water pollution. Explain the chemical and biological treatment processes for wastewater. (20)
